Description: The XM29, formerly known as the Objective Individual Combat Weapon (OICW), is the US military's next generation individual assault weapon. The XM29 is a part of the Land Warrior program and also an integrated part of the FCS (Future Combat Systems) program. It will replace selectively the M16 rifle and the M4 carbine in the infantry squad.

The XM29 will increase lethality and survivability on the battlefield, while provides fire control, target acquisition, individual training and squad training simulation capabilities and extended range over currently deployed assault rifles. It fires either the 20mm High Explosive Air Busting (HEAB) ammunition and the NATO standard 5.56mm ammunition. The XM29's modular design enables separation between the 20mm and the 5.56mm module guns.

The XM29 features integrated video sight, laser rangefinder for ballistic computation and day/night optics based on uncooled IR sensor. Engagement ranges are optimized at 300 meters, but it is also possible to engage targets at 500 meters and beyond. The fire control provides 0.5 meter CEP out to 500 meters and 1 meter CEP out to 1,000 meters. The 20mm HEAB round features air busting, point detonation, self-destruct, and self-neutralization modes.
