Description: The Birdie, Bi-spectral InfraRed Decoy Improved Efficiency, is an advanced aircraft decoy system developed by Rheinmetall Waffe Munition to defeat anti-aircraft missiles equipped with two-color infrared seekers. Two-color seekers were designed to surpass infrared countermeasures through using two-way analysis. The Birdie is effective against surface-to-air and air-to-air missiles including man-portable shoulder-launched missiles or MANPADS. The Birdie decoy system has been ordered by Germany and Sweden.

The Birdie 118 fits into 1x1-inch NATO standard rotary-wing aircraft dispensing systems. The Birdie 218 has been designed to fit into 2x1-inch NATO standard aircraft dispensing systems. Both have demonstrated very effective even against the most sophisticated two-color seekers available currently.
