Description: The HeliStar is a protection system for rotary-wing aircraft intended against man-portable surface-to-air missile systems (SAM).

HeliStar consists of EADS AN/AAR-60 MILDS missile warning system and Rafael's JAM-AIR directional jamming system. The MILDS will be responsible for detecting missile approach and reporting that critical information to a central computer. This in turn automatically initiates the jamming of the missile's seeker by JAM-AIR directed infrared laser beam providing full coverage protection.

The JAM-AIR countermeasure system was also integrated into AEROGEM protection system developed by Rafael.

Rafael and EADS are expected to conduct the first flight test of HeliStar before the end of 2004.
