Description: Arriel 2 is an improved version of Arriel 1 turboshaft engine introduced by Turbomeca in 1977. Arriel 2 gas generator turbine is made in one stage with single crystal blades compared to Arriel 1. The Arriel 2 engine is controlled by a single channel electronic control unit with manual backup. Arriel 2 engines are used to power lightweight helicopters.

The Arriel 2B1 engine is powering Eurocopter's Ecureuil/Fennec EC 130B4 commercial/military helicopter. Arriel 2B1 features a dual channel digital engine control system (FADEC), and a back-up control box that automatically controls the engine in case of total failure of both digital channels of the FADEC. More than 5,000 Arriel turboshafts have been produced to date.
