Description: The T700 engine was designed for the US Army's UH-60A Black Hawk helicopter as a result of lessons learned in Vietnam. The key requirements of this engine were reliability, operation under adverse environmental conditions and low maintainability.

The T700-GE-701E is a derivative of the proven T700-GE-701D engine. The -701E model was selected to power the US Army's UH-60M helicopter in 2005 replacing the -701D as standard equipment. The first UH-60M helicopter took to the skies powered by -701E engines on August 28, 2008. Approximately 900 such helicopters will be produced for the US Army beginning in 2009.

The -701E engine incorporates an on-engine-mounted full authority digital engine control (FADEC), and includes fail-fixed control design that retains fixed engine power in the event both channels of the control should fail. The new engine has been designed to flawlessly integrate with the UH-60M's fly-by-wire flight control system to provide more precise handling as well as reduced maintenance requirements.
