Description:
The AN/AAR-47 was developed to provide awareness about surface-to-air missile firings to both helicopters and low flying aircraft. It also automatically provides countermeasures (ALE-39, ALE-40 or ALE-47) and visual and audio sector warning messages to the pilot.
The AN/AAR-47 consists of a computer processor, a control indicator, and 4 electro-optical sensor converters which detect incoming missiles. The most recent upgraded model, the AN/AAR-47(V)2, incorporates laser warning.
The AAR-47 warning system has been installed on both fixed and rotary wing aircraft such as the AH-1W, UH-1N, C-130, SH-60, P-3, CH-53D, CH-46, C-5, C-17, MH-53J, MH-47 and MH-60. As of December 2005, ATK/BAE Systems has delivered more than 5,000 AAR-47(V)2 sets fitted with laser warning sensor.
