Description: The AN/AQS-22 ALFS dipping sonar and sonobuoy processing system is the primary anti-submarine warfare sensor of US Navy's MH-60R multi-mission helicopter. It provides mission critical capabilities, including submarine detection, tracking, localization, classification, acoustic intercept, underwater communication and environmental data collection.

The AQS-22 dipping sonar features 4-time greater area coverage than current systems, active or passive sonar modes, active or passive sonobuoys, enhanced shallow water capability, generate high power waveforms and many other advanced characteristics.

Raytheon was awarded a $30 million contract to provide 10 AN/AQS-22 Airborne Low Frequency Sonar (ALFS) systems for the US Navy to be integrated into MH-60Rs at Raytheon's Naval Integration Center in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. This contract follows an earlier low rate initial production (LRIP) contract covering four sonar systems, which were already delivered ahead of schedule.

On 29 June 2006, Raytheon was awarded a US Navy $45 million contract for six additional AN/AQS-22 ALFS airborne systems to be integrated onto the MH-60R helicopter.
