CAV
IOC: 2010
Also Known As
Common Aero Vehicle
Origin United States of America
|
Description:
The Common Aero Vehicle (CAV) is an unpowered, maneuverable, hypersonic, munitions delivery system. The CAV glider would be able to carry up to 1,000-pound (500 kg) in munitions at a range of 3,000 nautical miles (+5,000 km). Other Advanced CAV (ECAV) designs could provide an estimated downrange of 9,000 nm (+15,000 km).
The CAV vehicle should be released from space at 100 nautical mile (180 km) altitude by the Small Launch Vehicle (SLV) rocket booster. In addition, SLV will place small satellites into low Earth orbit.
