F/A-22 Raptor
IOC: 2005
Total Production: 184
Production Cost: USD$65 billion
FB-22
IOC: 2015
Also Known As:
F-22X
Origin:United States of America
Contractor/s:
Boeing, Lockheed Martin
Description:
The FB-22 has been introduced as an attack version of the F/A-22 Raptor multi-role, air dominance fighter. It will retain general performance but with a bigger wing to provide increased range and weapons load. Some sources suggest that the FB-22 will replace current F-15E and F-117 aircraft, even the B-52 long-range bomber.
The total number of FB-22s procured by the US Air Force might be greater than the number of F/A-22 aircraft, which stands at 277 in December 2004. However, the FB-22 remains uncertain due to budget cuts and availability of new weapons with longer range and capabilities than previous generations.
