CV90120

Origin:Sweden

Contractor/s: Alvis Plc, United Defense

Description: The CV90 is a family of modular ground combat vehicles designed to carry out the most part of modern mechanized units missions. The CV90 vehicles are extremely agile, all-terrain capable, with minimized radar and IR signatures to achieve high survivability. They also feature reduced maintenance costs and high growth potential. The CV90's turret is electrically operated and houses a UTAAS sight providing day/night and all-weather detection and fire control capabilities.

The CV90 vehicles are the result of a joint venture between Bofors Defence and Hagglunds. The first CV90 vehicles where delivered to the Swedish Army in 1993. In addition, Norway, Switzerland and Finland have ordered CV90 armored vehicles.

The CV90 vehicles weighing 20 to 30 tons are powered by a single Scania DI16 diesel engine providing 600-670 hp.

The CV90120 is the latest development in the CV90 series and has been designed to assume the role of a main battle tank but with better mobility. To increase its survivability, the CV90120 features an integrated modular defensive aid suite which warns the crew from radar and laser illumination and missile approach. The CV90120 can defeat threats through the use of the multi-spectral aerosol active countermeasures system and the top-attack radar which provides warning about incoming anti-tank munitions.

The CV90120 is armed with the high-pressure, low recoil CTG 120/L50 smooth bore gun enabled to fire all 120mm standard NATO ammunition. Secondary armament consists of a 7.62mm and a 12.7mm machine guns. In addition of the gunner's UTAAS sight, the CV90120 also mounts a Commander's Panoramic low signature sight providing a hunter-killer capability.
