Origin
South Africa

Contractor/s
Denel

Description: Denel's Rooikat is an eight wheeled cavalry vehicle designed to provide high speeds on/off-road as well as high mobility for operation in a wide variety of terrains, survivability and firepower. The Rooikat export model is armed with a 105mm GT7 gun, while the South African Army's Rooikat uses a high-pressure 76mm GT4 gun. The GT7 gun fires all 105mm NATO standard ammunition. The secondary armament of Rooikat consists of a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun and another one mounted on the turret roof.

The Rooikat operates day and night thanks to a thermal camera which also provides a hunter-killer capability. It fires on moving and armed with the 105 or 76mm gun has a high kill probability against modern armored battle tanks. Compared to modern tracked main battle tanks, the Rooikat concept was designed to be flawless adapted to the African operations theater.
