Description:
Duro (Durable, Independent, Robust and Economical) is a modular, multi-purpose, all-terrain 6x6 wheeled vehicle family designed in cooperation between German Rheinmetall and Swiss MOWAG companies. It is suitable for a wide range of military purposes and has been adopted by the Armies of Germany and Switzerland.
The Duro all-terrain vehicle consists of the chassis and the cab which can be tailored to accommodate personnel or material depending on missions needs. The vehicle weight remains below 12 tons in all configurations. That makes possible Duro to be airlifted by C-130, C-160 and A400M cargo aircraft and deployed worldwide.
The Duro 3 is an armored version of successful Duro designed to meet the requirements of the German Army for a multipurpose highly transportable vehicle suitable for international peacekeeping operations. To date, 12 ambulance-configured, 4 military police versions and 10 bomb disposal Duro 3 vehicles have ordered by the German Army. The total requirement of Duro 3 to fulfill medical, military police, reconnaissance, command and control, bomb disposal and communications mission profiles could run over 900 vehicles.
In September 2005, the German Army - Bundeswehr - placed an order to Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH valued at 151 million Euro for 81 BV206S command and transport vehicles and 100 DURO IIIP 6x6 armored personnel carriers. The vehicles were slated for delivery between 2006 through 2009. DURO IIIP were to be fitted with ballistic and landmine protection and space for up to 10 fully equipped soldiers. All in 31 vehicles will serve as medical vehicles, 23 as military police, 21 as bomb disposal and the remaining 25 as other missions.
Yak designation refers to Duro 3 vehicle offered in 2005 to meet the German Army's GFF family of command and multipurpose vehicles requirement.
