Description:
The Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) is a high mobility 6x6 5-ton truck capable of carrying medium-weight military payloads while keeping the pace with any modern military vehicle. Oshkosh started production of the MTVR in September 1999 with the green light for the full rate production coming from the Pentagon in April 2001. The US Marine Corps fielded the first MTVR in August 2001 during a ceremony at Blount Island. The USMC initial requirement within its tactical truck modernization plan was for 1,100 vehicles that potentially might expand to 8,168. MTVR are used to transport troops and supplies for battle during wartime or food and emergency supplies in peacekeeping missions.
In April 2003 the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence (MoD) awarded Oshkosh Truck Corporation a $250 million for delivery of 348 tanker vehicles based on the MTVR. The British Armed Forces were taking delivery of a mixture of aircraft and close support tankers for fuel and tankers for water from 2005 through 2007. In February 2004 the US Marine Corps issued a $185.9 million contract for 700 MTVR including wrecker (274) and dump truck (426) models. In March 2005 the US Navy ordered 92 tractor-trailer MTVRs capable of towing 47 tons. The US Navy tractor-trailer vehicles were valued at $24 million with deliveries starting in August 2005. In March 2006 the US Navy issued a new contract worth $169 million for 536 MTVR cargo vehicles and 190 tractors. Deliveries were expected to be complete by April 2008.
