Description: The Polyphem carrier is an all-terrain wheeled vehicle with a 6-cell launcher containing one Polyphem fiber optic guided missiles. The 4x4 carrier vehicle will also act as ground control station for the Polyphem missiles. This artillery system will provide high precision surgical capability with near real time target identification via the fiber optic cable and without collateral damage. The Polyphem system will perform as field artillery, coastal defense system, and fire support system for rapid reaction forces.

The Polyphem artillery system will enter service in 2004 in the armies of Germany, France and Italy. It will be air-transportable employing existing C-130 and C-160 aircraft as well as future A400M cargo aircraft. The vehicle features lightweight armor small caliber guns and land mines.
