Type 83 (8)

Description: The WM-80 is a 273mm Multiple Rocket Launcher System (MLRS) derived from Chinese Type 83 artillery system equipped with four 273mm tubes. Developed by NORINCO in the 1990s, it is based on a modified 8x8 all-terrain truck with eight artillery tubes arranged in two lines of four tubes. Artillery rockets associated to the WM-80 artillery system weigh about 500 kg and are equipped with a single 150 kg blast/fragmentation warhead or anti-personnel / anti-armor sub-munitions. These rockets have a maximum range of 80 kilometers.

The WM-80 features improved accuracy, firepower, reload time, and mobility over its predecessor the Type 83 MLRS which was based on a tracked chassis. So far, the Chinese WM-80 has been exported to Armenia. Apparently, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) has not fielded this artillery system in favor of more capable A-100 MLRS.
