AN/AAQ-27

Also Known As
AN/AAQ-27(3 FOV)

Origin
United States of America

Contractor/s
Raytheon

Applications
MV-22A Osprey

Description: The AN/AAQ-27 is a third generation mid-wavelength IR imaging system. It allows aircraft to see through darkness, haze, smoke and adverse weather. It has superior performance over previous generation systems in many aspects, specially reliability. Currently fielded AAQ-16B FLIRs could be upgraded to the AAQ-27 standard applying a retrofit kit produced by Raytheon.

The AAQ-27 has been selected for the USMC's MV-22 Osprey tilt rotor. The AN/AAQ-27(3 FOV) is a modified derivative of baseline AAQ-27 with 3 fields-of-view for enhanced performance (better navigation + high-altitude targeting). It is in production for Australia's Super SeaSprite and Seahawks.
