EL/M-2228S AMDR

Origin: Israel

Contractor/s: Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. (IAI)

Description: Elta's EL/M-2228S is an air and surface search and warning radar system designed for small and medium ship applications. It was developed specifically for the Israel Navy fast attack boats. In addition to its primary application, EL/M-2228S can be provided for large ships as complementary search radar. It is based on fully coherent S-band pulse Doppler multimode search radar technology and features Track-While-Scan (TWS) capability.

In the automatic threat alert role, EL/M-2228S can effectively detect a wide range of threats such as sea-skimming anti-ship cruise missiles, TV-guided bombs and/or high-speed anti-radiation missiles. This sophisticated radar system uses unique waveforms and advanced signal processing techniques. This combination yields a low rate of false alarm of no more than one false alarm per day. In the search mode, it can track up to 100 air and surface targets. It can detect a fighter aircraft at distances of 70 km and an incoming missiles at 20 km.

The EL/M-2228S is available in 2D and 3D configurations. The system weight, ranging from 737 to 2,150 kg, varies with different configurations.

Parent system is the EL/M-2228
Other Family Members: EL/M-2228X SGRS
