Description: The LANTIRN (Low Altitude Navigation and Targeting InfraRed for Night) system comprises the AN/AAQ-14 targeting pod and the AN/AQQ-13 navigation pod. The AN/AAQ-13 pod weighs 205 kg, 0.3 m diameter, and 1.99 m long. The AAQ-14 pod weighs 241 kg, 0.38 m diameter and 2.51 m long.

The LANTIRN system provides accurate navigation and targeting capabilities. It comprises a laser designator for laser-guided weapons and a FLIR for day, night and adverse weather navigation. The LANTIRN is being upgraded through the addition of a third generation FLIR for extended range, an improved laser for use at 40,000-foot altitude, a CCD-TV device, digital data recorder, geo-locater and laser spot tracker. The upgraded LANTIRN has improved reliability, maintainability, and lower life cycle costs.

The LANTIRN targeting/navigation system has been installed on the F-15 Strike Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon and F-14 Tomcat aircraft. More than 1,700 LANTIRN pods have been produced for the United States and allied nations. It was first deployed successfully during the Gulf War in 1991.

On 14 November 2006, Lockheed Martin announced an agreement with the Royal Denmark Air Force (RDAF) for the purchase of three LANTIRN ER (Extended Range) targeting pods. The folowing 26-month contract awarded to Lockheed Martin valued at $20 million also included upgrades for 13 LANTIRN pods already owned by RDAF.
