Description: The LITENING ER (Extended Range) is an upgraded version of the LITENING II targeting and navigation pod with extended detection and tracking range over previous models. It features a 640x512 third generation FLIR replacing 256x256 pixel technology of LITENING II, CCD-TV, laser spot tracker/rangefinder, laser designator and laser marker. It has been specifically designed to provide targeting at extended ranges compared to LITENING II as well as enhanced performance.
The LITENING ER began fielding in 2001 reaching operational capability on the US Air Force's F-16 and F-15E and US Marine Corps AV-8B tactical aircraft. US Armed Forces LITENING ER along with LITENING II pods are meant to upgrade to the more capable LITENING AT standard.
