Description:
The Thermal Weapon Sight II (TWS II) is a joint US Army and US Marine Corps program to develop the next generation family of thermal weapon sight systems. TWS II family comprises light, medium and heavy sights build round BAE Systems' MicroIR microbolometer-based sensor architecture. This family of sights delivers to individuals and crew-served weapon gunners the ability to detect and engage targets at longer ranges day or night, at all weather and battlefield obscurant conditions. TWS II also provides surveillance capability.
In March 2004, BAE Systems was awarded a five-year $111 million contract for production of TWS II sights. In May 2006, BAE Systems received a $73 million contract modification increasing the total contract value to $200 million. BAE Systems also completed the US Army qualification for the new sight system in May 2006. TWS II program value including options is valued at $295 million for up to 29,600 sights.
