Description:
The Project 945A-class submarines, Sierra II class NATO-codename, are intended to engage surface ships, submarines and ground targets using torpedoes, rockets, mines, anti-ship missiles and cruise missiles. Their titanium hull allows them to plunge up to 1,000 meters depth. Torpedoes, missiles, mines and rockets can be released through 4 533mm and 4 650mm torpedo tubes. Overall performance of Project 945A submarines is similar to Project 971 class submarines, Akula class NATO-codename.
The Project 945A is an evolution of the proven Project 945, Sierra NATO-codename, submarine with optimized propulsion system for lower noise emission and enlarged hull. Only one Project 945 submarine remains in service with the Russian Navy.
