Description: The Jericho III is the latest development of the Jericho ballistic missile family designed by Israel to be launched from underground silos and mobile land platforms. It shares components with the Shavit space launch system such as the three-stage solid propellant propulsion system configuration. Jericho 3 has an estimated range of 4,800 kilometers carrying a 1,000-1,300 kg payload that can be a conventional or non-conventional warhead. It is accepted that the Jericho can be equipped with two or three low yield MIRV nuclear warheads which gives Israel the ultimate retaliatory tool against hostile neighbors. The warheads high speed also provides some extra survivability against anti-ballistic missile (ABM) defenses. The Jericho 3 features an inertial navigation system terminal radar guidance. The first launch of the Jericho 3 was carried out on January 17, 2008. On November 2, 2011, Israel successfully test-fired a modified version in Palmachim, central Israel.
