Description: Kh-22 is a liquid propellant, long-range, supersonic cruise missile designed for use on Soviet medium bombers such as Tu-22 against a wide spectrum of targets such as ships and air defenses. Kh-22 can be equipped with either conventional or nuclear warheads. Its guidance system is based on inertial navigation adding an active radar homing head for anti-ship applications. The active radar head guides Kh-22 in the final stage of the flight.

Kh-22 is called the AS-4 Kitchen by NATO. Kh-22N is equipped with a nuclear warhead. Kh-22M anti-ship and Kh-22MP suppression of enemy air defense missiles feature a conventional warhead. Originally, this missile system was integrated onto Soviet Air Force's Tu-22 Blinder and Tu-22M Backfire. In the 1990s the Russian Air Force began deploying Kh-22s on its Tu-95 Bear heavy bomber fleet.
