Description: The PILUM, Spear in Latin, is an aircraft launched glide missile designed to engage surface targets at short to medium ranges developed jointly between Diehl BGT Defence and Rafael. It is a based upon the HOSBO's airframe, guidance and control section as well as the aircraft interface adding the scene-matching technology of the SPICE airborne weapon system supplied by Rafael. The resulting weapon system utilizes GPS/INS-guided cruising flight combined with dual-band seeker terminal homing to achieve outstanding high target accuracy. It is qualified to provide close air support, standoff engagement against ground targets, anti-ship engagement and suppression of enemy air defenses (SEAD). The PILUM was showcased for the first time in June 2011 at the Paris Air Show.
