Description: R-36 was a two-stage, liquid propellant, Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) with enhanced accuracy compared with its predecessors. With a maximum range of about 10,000 km R-36 was able to deliver a 5-megaton warhead. In the 1970s the Soviet Union developed a variant of R-36, called the R-36P, equipped with three Multiple Targetable Independently Reentry Vehicles (MIRVs). Western designation for the R-36 missile is SS-9 Scarp.
