Description: The R-39UTTH Bark, NATO designation SS-N-28, was a massive solid-propellant submarine launched ballistic missile (SLBM) intended as the replacement of the R-39 missile onboard the Project 941 class of strategic submarines of the Russian Navy. The missile program was abandoned in the early 2000s in favor of the lighter and faster Bulava missile system considered far more survivable in future warfare environments against advanced missile defenses. Originally, the R-39UTTH ballistic missile was intended to equip the Project 941 submarines replacing the R-39 and the new the generation of ballistic submarines of the Project 955 Borei class.
