Description: The P180 Avanti is an advanced aerodynamics, pressurized cabin, twin-turboprop aircraft offering jet-like performance. It was developed by Piaggio Aero for civil and military customers. The P180 project started in the late 1970s with the maiden flight carried out in September 1986. The first customer took delivery of a P180 aircraft in September 1991. The P180 Avanti is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-66 engines each rated at 850-shp driving a five-bladed Hartzell propeller. The P180 Avanti II is an improved version launched in October 2004 and featuring Pro Line 21 avionics suite and improved PT6A-66B engines. The first Avanti II was delivered to a Swiss customer in December 2005.

The P180 Avanti is certified for single pilot operation and can seat up to nine passengers. The Avanti II obtained the EASA certification on October 21, 2005, and FAA certification in March 2006. PT6A-66B engines were introduced in production models during 2006 expanding P180s flight performance. As the world's fastest turboprop business aircraft, Avanti II can reach flight altitudes of 41,000-ft, maximum airspeeds of 402 knots and cruise speeds of 398 KTAS. P180s key aerodynamic design elements are: Three-Lifting-Surface Configuration (3LSC) which permits 34 percent reduction in wing area thus lower weight and drag; and a non-cylindrical low-drag fuselage.
