Description: The Rolls Royce AE2100 engine is a derivative of the T406 turboshaft. It was designed to power high-speed regional aircraft. The AE2100D2 engine has been selected to power Italy's C-27J Spartan light tactical transport aircraft. D2 engine is less powerful than D3 model.

On May 3, 2006 Alenia Aeronautica and Rolls Royce signed an agreement valued at $200 million for the supply of 42 propulsion systems for the C-27J transport aircraft. The agreement included up to 84 AE 2100-D2 engines and six-bladed Dowty R-391 propellers which will be manufactured in Indianapolis, Indiana.
