Description: The Graphite Epoxy Motor (GEM) booster was designed to increase the launch capability of Boeing Delta II rocket. GEMs provide outstanding reliability and lower costs over their predecessors. Thereafter GEM boosters power Delta III and Delta IV space launch systems as well as the Atlas V rocket.

The GEM 63XL is a further version of the GEM 63 being developed with internal funds by Northrop Grumman to power the United Launch Alliance (ULA) Vulcan Centaur rocket. Each Vulcan Centaur launch vehicle will be fitted with six GEM 63XL rocket motors. The GEM 63 and GEM 63XL rocket motors use common materials and processes.
