Description: The Kaveri Marine Gas Turbine (KMGT) is a derivative of the Kaveri fighter aircraft engine developed by India's Gas Turbine Research Establishment, Bangalore of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to power the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA). Apparently, India has abandoned the Kaveri engine development in favor of the F404-GE-IN20 engine. The KMGT is intended to power Indian Navy's surface ships such as frigates and destroyers. The gas turbine is based on the Kaveri engine core adding a low pressure compressor and turbine as a gas generator thus generating shaft power for the maritime application. The KMGT was tested at Naval Dock Yard, Vishakapatnam. The new 12 MW class gas turbine may be installed aboard Rajput class destroyers as a part of a modernization program.
