Description: The General Electric LM2500 gas turbine was designed to be a high efficiency, ease to repair and maintain and corrosion-resistant marine gas turbine. It is suitable for both mechanical drive and power generation applications. As of 2008 General Electric had delivered more than 2,000 LM2500 gas turbines.

The LM2500+ marine gas turbine is a more powerful variant of the LM2500 developing 30.2 MW. Excepting the power the new turbine shares the LM2500's main features. It is available for mechanical drive applications for commercial and military marine, and power generation for industrial customers. The LM2500+ gas turbine was utilized for the first time in 2000 to power Celebrity Cruises' Millennium commercial cruiser. It provides 25% more power at a simple thermal-cycle, thermal efficiency in excess of 39%, and reliability the same of LM2500, 99.6%. The LHD 8, the newest member of the LHD 1 Wasp amphibious assault ship class to date, will be the first military ship powered by this gas turbine. Two LM2500+ turbines will be part of LHD 8's hybrid electric drive system along with two electric motors. LM2500+ was certified by the US Navy to suit military ships in August 2004.
