Description: The RS-25D/E rocket engine is a modification of the Space Shuttle Main Engine (SSME) and is intended for the core stage of NASA's future Space Launch System (SLS) space rocket family. The new SLS heavy carrier vehicle will be powered by three or five RS-25D/E rocket engines starting in 2018. It burns a mixture of liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen and can attain a maximum thrust level in vacuum of 512,300-lb.
