Description: The WS-15 is a Chinese advanced turbofan intended to power fifth generation fighter aircraft. The WS-15 thrust may exceed 18,000 kg (37,000 to 38,000 pounds) and is intended to power the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) J-20 twin-engine stealth aircraft and the J-12 single engine stealth fighter. The WS-15 engine development has suffered of several setbacks and China was forced to develop the WS-10G engine until the new engine is ready in the 2020s. The new engine is expected to feature Thurst Vectoring Control (TVC) as well as reduced infrared signature to help the J-20 to keep low the stealth profile. Besides, the new engine is paramount to provide super cruise speed for the J-20 which is also in the cross hairs for China.
