Description: The 5p-42 Filin, Eagle Owl in English, is a protection system developed by Ruselectronics aimed at preventing enemy combatant at targeting the protected platform by causing blindness and hallucinations even vomits temporarily. The non-lethal dazzler-type device uses a strobe-like effect that disrupts eyesight preventing aiming by enemy soldiers especially if they are using guns. Besides, the device is also capable of suppressing night vision devices, laser rangefinders and anti-tank missile electro-optical sight systems. The 5P-42 has been designed for installation on a variety of platforms such as armored vehicles and surface ships. The Russian Navy introduced the new protection system on its Admiral Gorshkov class frigates beginning in 2019.
