Description: The AN/ALQ-99 Tactical Jamming System is a core system for the United States Air Force and Navy Electronic Warfare (EW) aircraft capability. Each ALQ-99 pod carries two jamming transmitters that cover one of seven radiofrequency bands. The primary mission of the ALQ-99 is to provide jamming in support of strike/assault forces. The EA-6B along with the ALQ-99 jamming pod were upgraded during ICAP III modernization effort carried out by Northrop-Grumman.
The US Air Force provided the AN/ALQ-99 to its EF-111 Raven electronic warfare aircraft along with the AN/ALQ-137 for self-defense purposes. The US Navy provided the ALQ-99 to its EA-6B Prowler fleet. Each EA-6B can carry up to five EW pods. The US Navy also plans to provide the AN/ALQ-99 to its future EA-18G electronic attack aircraft beginning in 2009.
