Description: The Civil Aircraft Missile Protection System (CAMPS) is a self-protection system designed to counter man-portable surface-to-air missiles fired against passenger and VIP aircraft. The system has been developed in partnership between Saab Avitronics, Chemring Countermeasures and Naturelink. The system comprises the MAW 300 ultra violet based missile approach warner; a central processing unit; and the BOA non pyrotechnical flare and advanced IR countermeasures dispenser. The non pyrotechnical IR decoys used on CAMPS were developed by Chemring Countermeasures of UK. The remaining CAMPS items were provided by Saab Avitronics.

In March 2007, the CAMPS self-protection system entered operational demonstration at Overberg Testing Range (OTB) in Bredasdorp near Cape Town in South Africa. The CAMPS was installed on an Embraer 120 from charter operator Naturelink Aviation of South Africa. The CAMPS may be ready for deployment on Naturelink-owned civilian aircraft by the middle of 2008.
