Description: The US Army Common Infrared Countermeasures (CIRCM) rotary-wing aircraft survivability equipment has been designed to provide protection against incoming man-portable surface-to-air missiles and other heat-seeking munitions. Northrop-Grumman, Daylight Solutions and SELEX Galileo were responsible for developing and manufacturing the new protection system. The system incorporates an open architecture and a Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) to blind incoming missiles. The CIRCM will be integrated onto the US Army, US Navy and Marine Corps helicopters. The first CIRCM set was delivered in October 2016 and is expected to enter service in 2017.
