Description: The J-MUSIC is a multi-turret DIRCM (Directed Infrared Counter Measure) system designed to provide 360-degree protection against infrared-guided missiles. The J-MUSIC combines three Elbit Systems MUSIC (Multi-Spectral Infrared Countermeasure) systems to protect large military and commercial aircraft against attacks by infrared missiles. In 2014, Elbit Systems completed extensive testing and delivered the first systems to equip several aircraft. The J-MUSIC is intended primarily to counter man-portable surface-to-air missiles (MANPADS). The MUSIC technology is based on Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) for the missile's tracking and laser jamming to blind the missile's infrared seeker. On May 22, 2014, Diehl Defence and Elbit Systems signed a cooperation agreement at the Berlin International Aviation and Space Exhibition (ILA) to install the J-MUSIC aircraft self-protection systems on Germany's A400M transport aircraft beginning in 2015.
The J-MUSIC is a compact and lightweight system that features low drag, efficiency, high reliability and can be installed without degrading the aircraft's performance while providing protection against multiple threats. Besides its FLIR and laser jammer, the system requires a missile warning system (MWS) using infrared (IR), ultraviolet (UV) or radar technology; a high speed turret to track the missile's seeker accurately; and a processor to coordinate all the elements. The C-MUSIC is a civilian version intended for use by VIP aircraft.
