Description: The Multi Ammunition Soft-kill System (MASS) is a ship-mounted decoy countermeasure system designed to defeat guided projectiles and anti-ship missiles. It launches up to 32 identical decoys from a steered launcher in a temporally staggered process. These decoys deflect enemy missiles from their intended targets making them fly harmlessly off into empty space.

MASS decoys ensure protection against threats employing UV (UltraViolet), Laser, IR (Infrared), Electro-Optical and Radar guidance systems.

The MASS protection system has already been selected by the German Navy for its K130-class corvettes, Finnish Navy for SQUADRON 2000 fast attack craft and Hameenmaa minelayers, and in late 2003 by the Norwegian Navy for SKJOLD fast attack boats.

On 22 July 2004, Rheinmetall announced that in April Sweden ordered 11 MASS systems worth €8 million ($10 million) for five of its Visby-class corvettes and four other corvettes. The United Arab Emirates Navy also placed an order worth €4.5 million ($5.6 million) to protect four ships of planned Baynunah-class multipurpose missile corvettes.
