Description: Multi-color InfraRed Alerting Sensor (MIRAS) is an state-of-the-art multiple color infrared missile warning system developed specifically to fit into the A400M tactical military aircraft. The MIRAS is being developed by EADS Defense Electronics in conjunction with Thales. The resulting system offers unprecedented combination of detection probability, detection range and low false alarm rates. MIRAS was selected for the A400M in September 2005 with 85 systems on order to equip 85 A400Ms from 2010. ALR-400 radar warner, defensive aids computer, MIRAS multi-color missile warner and a chaff/flare dispenser are the basis for the A400M aircraft self-protection system. Despite the MIRAS first application would be on a wide-body aircraft, EADS and Thales are marketing the MIRAS for application on fighters at high altitude.
