Description: The Rif-M is a guided missile system designed to defeat a wide range of airborne threats ranging from fixed-wing aircraft to supersonic sea-skimming missiles. The Rif-M is a further evolution of the S-300F/Rif air defense system introduced by the Soviet Union's Navy in the early 1980s. Rif-M features extended air defense utilizing the 48N6E2 long-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) as well as improved short range air defense against stealth and supersonic targets utilizing the highly maneuverable 9M96 missile. The Rif-M has been selected to equip the Project 21956 destroyer.

The Rif-M shipborne air defense system includes several 3S-48E vertical missile launchers which can be fitted with eight 48N6E2 missiles or 32 9M96 missiles (each 48N6E is replaced by four 9M96s). In addition, the missile system also includes 3Ts-48E fire control system. The Rif-M is backed by Fregat-MAE-3 and Fregat-MAE-4K long-range multi-functional radars. The 48N6E2 has a maximum range of 200 kilometers while the 9M96 can engage elusive targets at ranges shorter than 40 kilometers.
