Description: The Northrop Grumman Soft Kill Countermeasure System (SKCM) is an advanced active protection system (APS) intended to defeat anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs). The SKCM comprises a passive infrared cueing sensor system to detect incoming threats and thereafter deploy the proper countermeasure against the ATGM. The SKCM is also known as the Multifunction Electro-Optical System (MEOS) and has been tested by the US Army onboard the M1A1 Abrams heavyweight tank. As of early January 2019, the APS was being tested with a potential deployment in the early 2020s.
