Description: The MBDA Simbad-RC is an air defense remotely controlled turret employing the Mistral short-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) and intended to fit into a variety of surface vessels. The new turret is an evolution of the Simbad twin launcher weapon system. The Simbad-RC is specially well suited for fast patrol boats and auxiliary ships as well as for frigates and corvettes as a complementary short-range air defense system. The weapon system features an stabilized launcher, a 4th generation infrared thermal sight and remotely controlled from the ship's operation room by a single operator. The Mistral missiles can engage fast attack boats as well as anti-ship missiles. The Simbad-RC development started in 2011 and the first deliveries are planned for 2015. So far, to unnamed navies have ordered the Simbad-RC weapon station.
