Description: The Torbuster is a fourth generation torpedo decoy system developed by Rafael for integration on submarines. It has been designed to defeat and/or neutralize all-known torpedoes which are using an acoustic homing system operating in both blue and/or shallow waters environments. Rafael developed the Torbuster based partially on the acoustic signals technology from the Scutter surface ship reactive decoy system. Rafael showcased the Torbuster for the first time during Pacific 2008 in Australia.

The Torbuster decoy is expelled from the submarine's external launcher once an incoming torpedo has been confirmed. The decoy propels itself to a safe distance from the submarine to transmit acoustic signals divert the incoming torpedo from the boat. The Torbuster decoy self-explodes when the attacking torpedo is at the closest range, thus maximizing the underwater blast's odds of inflicting damage to the threat and positively neutralizing it.
