Description:
The Embraer 170 was the first member of successful Embraer 170/190 family of twin-engine, single aisle, commercial aircraft comprising Embraer 170, 175, 190 and 195 models. The Embraer 170/190 project was initiated in 1999 with $850 million of funds allocated by Embraer and up to 16 multinational partners. The first flight occurred in 2002 and the airliner entered service in March 2004. Embraer estimates that the entire program could generate $15 billion in revenues in the next 10 years.
The Embraer 170 regional jet has a range of 2,000 nautical miles cruising at Mach 0.82 and carrying around 70 passengers. It has a wide aisle, large seats, and a passenger capacity of 70 to 78 depending on the cabin layout providing a high degree of comfort.
In May 2003, US Airways ordered 85 Embraer 170 airliners worth $2.1 billion, and also took options on 50 additional aircraft of the same type and 140 additional ERJ 145s. GECAS (General Electric Capital Aviation Services) will supply 30 aircraft to US Airways from 50 Embraer 170s ordered in 2000. In February 2006, 57 undelivered Embraer 170s were converted into 25 firm order Embraer 190 aircraft and 32 additional firm Embraer 190 aircraft which are pending of reconfirmation. The amendment also included 50 aircraft options of the Embraer 170/190 aircraft family. Aircraft deliveries to US Airways were expected to resume in November 2006.
In September 2003, CIRRUS airlines of Germany ordered its first Embraer 170 regional jet. In 2003, LOT Airlines of Poland and Alitalia of Italy ordered 6 Embraer 170 each.
In 2004, Republic Airlines (USA) ordered 16 firms orders Embraer 170s and 24 additional aircraft as option. In June 2004, Finnish Air placed an order for 12 Embraer 170s with deliveries beginning in September 2005 and will continue through May 2007.
On November 16, 2004, TAME Linea Aerea del Ecuador placed an order for two Embraer 170 and one Embraer 190 passenger aircraft, plus four aircraft options. The final agreement was signed on April 18, 2005, with deliveries to take place in 2005 and 2006. This agreement included four options on aircraft of the same family.
On December 22, 2004, the first Embraer 170 regional jet was delivered to Cirrus Airlines of Germany. The aircraft was configured to carry 76 passengers in a single class layout.
On January 19, 2005, Republic Airways Holdings added 16 firm and 34 option Embraer 170 jetliners to its order book. The 16 firm order aircraft were valued at $400 million. Deliveries were scheduled to begin in June 2005 through mid-2006. Republic has placed orders for 39 aircraft and further 61 as option.
Saudi Arabian Airlines placed an order for 15 Embraer 170 airplanes valued at $400 million on 25 April 2005. First deliveries were scheduled for December 2005. These aircraft were intended to get revenue in the regional and domestic markets.
On 17 September 2006, EgyptAir Holding Company placed an order for six Embraer 170 jets with options for another six aircraft of the same type. First airplane delivery was scheduled for April 2007 equipped with a 76-seat cabin layout. EgyptAir Express will be the carrier operating these aircraft.
On November 2, 2006, Australian carrier Virgin Blue Airlines placed an order for three Embraer 170 and 11 Embraer 190 jets with options for six more aircraft.
