Description:
The Embraer 175 is a member of successful Embraer 170/190 family of twin-engine, single aisle, commercial aircraft comprising Embraer 170, 175, 190 and 195 models, which have an 85% commonality. The Embraer 170/190 project was initiated in 1999 with $850 million of funds allocated by Embraer and up to 16 international partners. The first flight occurred in 2002 and the airliner entered service in March 2004. Embraer estimates that the entire program could generate $15 billion in revenues in the next 10 years.
The Embraer 175 regional jet has a 95% of commonality with the 170 model, a range of 1,800 nautical miles cruising at Mach 0.82 and carrying around 78 passengers. It has a wide aisle, large seats, and a passenger capacity of 78 to 86 depending on the cabin layout providing a high degree of comfort. In addition, the aircraft has low operating costs and operational flexibility.
On November 12, 2004, Air Canada placed the first firm order for 15 Embraer 175 regional jet, plus options for an additional 15 aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in July 2005. Air Canada order is worth $420 million with a potential value of $840 million including 15 options. Additionally, there are other contract options that could be converted to firm orders for this aircraft.
LOT Polish Airlines and Embraer achieved an agreement on May 11, 2005 converting four Embraer 170 options from a previous contract into four Embraer 175 firm orders. These airplanes will be configured to accommodate up to 82 passengers and will be delivered beginning in the second quarter of 2006.
On 24 July 2006, US carrier Republic Airlines and Embraer announced an agreement for the sale of 30 Embraer 175 jets. These aircraft were originally options under an Embraer/US Airways purchase agreement which have been transferred to Republic Airlines. Deliveries of the Embraer 175s in a 86-seat single-class configuration will begin in 2007 and complete in 2008.
On 31 August 2006 Embraer 175 received the type certification from the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
On 5 October 2006, Embraer announced that US carrier Northwest Airlines placed an order for 36 Embraer 175 jetliners with options for 36 additional aircraft and up to 100 rolling purchase rights. The aircraft were acquired by the carrier's regional subsidiary Compass Airlines and were expected to fly under the Northwest Airlink brand name. Deliveries were expected to start in the second quarter of 2007.
