Description:
The Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ) is a narrow-body, twin-engine passenger aircraft family intended for the regional segment and equipped with 70 to 90 seats in a very comfortable cabin. The MRJ is being developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) with the aim to implement cutting-edge technology into the aircraft's design which would result in an environmental-friendly aircraft and operating cost economy. The airframe will be made of composite materials on a major scale and thus will allow to achieve an outstanding cabin comfort and the aircraft's weight objectives. The fuel efficient Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofan (GTF) engine was selected in October 2007 to power the new jet family. The first MRJ regional jet is planned for entry into service by 2012.
The MRJ90 is a 90-seat class regional jet featuring common wings, empennage, engines and systems with the smaller MRJ70. The MRJ90 is provided in three variants: standard, extended-range (MRJ90ER), and Longer-Range (MRJ90LR). The MRJ90 models differ about maximum range, maximum takeoff weight and takeoff length specifications. The seating capacity ranges from 86 to 96 passengers. Two GTF engines placed in under-wing pylons will provide 34,200 pounds of thrust combined and a cruise speed between Mach 0.78 and Mach 0.82.
