Description: The MSTA-S, also known as 2S19, is a 152mm 48-caliber self-propelled howitzer designed to engage stationary and moving targets deep inside enemy territory. It has been developed on the basis of the T-72 and T-80 MBTs chassis through the addition of a gun turret comprising the 152mm main gun.

The MSTA-S can engage armored vehicles and fortifications employing precision-guided guided projectiles. It was deployed for the first time in the late 1990s in Chechnya. An automatic loading system for projectiles and semi-automatic for charges provide a rate of fire of 6-8 rounds per minute. Typically a crew of 5 people is required to operate the MSTA-S artillery system and a 12.7mm machine gun provides self-defense capability as well as the 152mm in the direct fire mode.

The MSTA-S was designed to replace 122mm and 152mm self-propelled howitzers in service with the Soviet Army but the Soviet Union collapse and lack of funds have made these plans to fail. The MSTA-S howitzer entered service in 1989.

The 2S19M1-155 is a derivative of MSTA-S, also known as 2S19, equipped with a 155mm cannon instead of a 152mm gun. The 155mm self-propelled howitzer is being offered for export customers seeking guns compliant with NATO standards.
