Description: The Type 75 is a 155mm self-propelled howitzer (SPH) produced by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Japan Steel Works (155mm main gun) for the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF). It is based on a lightweight tracked chassis fitted with a turret for a six-person crew. The turret is equipped with a 155mm artillery cannon with a maximum range of 19,000 meters and max rate of fire of six rounds per minute. A roof-mounted M2 12.7mm machine gun provides self-defense against threats at short ranges. The 450-hp six-cylinder air-cooled two-cycle diesel engine allows a top speed of 47kph on road. The Type 75 results lighter than NATO 155mm SPHs such as the M109. The JGSDF is replacing the Type 75 with the Type 99 SPH which provides greater firepower.
