Description: The AN/FPS-108 Cobra Dane is a large L-band, computer-controlled, phased array radar system with communications systems and an operations and test complex. It provides 120� coverage of a 3,000+ kilometers corridor that spans the eastern Russian peninsula and northern pacific ocean.

The Cobra Dane radar system collects information about Russian ballistic missiles launches from both land and strategic submarines. It also provides strategic early warning and detects and catalogs satellites.

The Cobra Dane radar has been modernized to extend its operational life by 15 years and enhance its performance. This upgrade involves new hardware, software, receivers and displays. The Cobra Dane radar is located at Eareckson Air Station in Shemya, Alaska.
